WELCOME

The Gold Coast Medical Association Inc (GCMA) is the only local membership-based organisation that represents the broad interests of the medical community on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Australia.

Immediate Past President, Professor Philip Morris represents GCMA on the AMA Queensland Council, maintaining strong links and a conduit for communication between the state and regional organisations.

In addition to promoting communication and networking among its members including general practitioners and specialists, the Association has a pivotal role in local and national issues, serving as a vital link between the medical profession and the wider community.

To this end, the GCMA is active in a range of areas, including:

• Presentation of 10 monthly sponsored clinical dinner meetings with invited speakers on cutting edge medical topics. This provides a meeting place for Gold Coast medicos, a way of introducing new arrivals and a means to help young practitioners learn about the business of medicine.
• An annual Gold Coast Health Expo showcasing some of the private health care services. Leading Gold Coast specialist doctors present a wide range of free talks throughout the day.
• A bi-monthly publication, The Medical Link, containing Association and medical news, views, clinical articles, reports and lifestyle issues of particular interest to the medical profession.

• Active involvement in health promotion, charity and aid programs.

As the 'Independent Voice of Medicine’ on the Gold Coast, we maintain an ongoing media presence on issues of importance to medical practitioners and their patients.

I would like to personally invite all financial members to submit articles to our Medical Link journal. Our journal goes out bi-monthly to Gold Coast medical practitioners. Our main requirements are for it to be in your area of clinical expertise, of general interest to our members and not a form of ‘advertorial’. Images (photos and illustrations) are encouraged. I would especially like to see some vignettes on medical practice as it was on the ‘Coast 20-30 years ago. We also welcome articles on your leisure interests. (cars, travel, music, sports, books, movies, etc) There is a journalist available to assist you with composition if required.
