GCMA members are invited to voice their opinion against the closure of the Southport Campus of the Gold Coast Hospital and that the site be retained as a substantial acute medical and surgical in-patient and out-patient facility for public usage in addition to the new Gold Coast University Hospital after the new hospital is completed in 2012.

Fluoride back on tap after 30 yrs

 

When the State Government announced it would be fluoridating public water supplies, Dr Ross Cartmill described it as “a great day for health in Queensland”.

“After more than 30 years, the announcement that 90% of Queenslanders will be drinking fluoridated water by 2012 finally brings us into line with the rest of the nation,” Dr Cartmill said.

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation and an Australian Government initiative that seeks to address mental health issues experienced by young people. Its objectives are: improving service integration and coordination through strategies such as centralised management, co-location, a common client management system, and increasing the usage of evidence-based interventions.

The Gold Coast Medical Association Inc. (GCMA) is the only local membership-based organisation that represents the broad interests of the medical community on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Australia.

In addition to promoting communication and networking among members – which include general practitioners and specialists – the Association has a pivotal role in local and national issues, serving as a vital link between the medical profession and the wider community.

To this end, the GCMA is active in a range of areas, including:

  • Providing local input on health issues at a State and national level.
  • Offering members regular educational forums on the latest medical issues, techniques and business practices through its regular guest speaker program. Creating public awareness of topical health issues.
  • Generating and disseminating information to the community on medical matters.
  • Supporting members in various fundraising efforts for the benefit of local charities.

Goals and Objectives


The continuing objectives of The Gold Coast Medical Association Inc.:

  • To promote on the Gold Coast medical science and to maintain the honour and interests of the medical profession.
  • To hold or arrange for the holding of periodic meetings of the members of the Association and of the medical profession generally or any section or number of such members.
  • To circulate such information as may be thought desirable by means of a periodical journal, which shall be the journal of the Association, and by the occasional publication of transactions or other papers.
  • To form a bond of union between members of the medical profession on the Gold Coast and a medium through which their opinions may be ascertained and expressed.
  • To collect and circulate statistics and other information relating to the medical or allied sciences or the medical profession.
  • To advance the general and social interests of the medical profession.
  • To promote fair and honourable practice to suppress discourage or prevent malpractice or professional misconduct to settle disputed points of practice and to decide all questions of professional usage and courtesy referred to the Association by any member of the Association.
  • To correspond with individuals or other bodies on any matter touching medical interests and by its moral influence and the exercise of a judicious supervision to prevent abuses in the profession.
